W. W. Gingrich

It has been a great query as to what became of W. W. Gingrich of Mexico? Perhaps we can answer. When he left home he had no notions to take the steps he did, but after he reched Harrisburg, he gave way to feelings of despair on account of his financial difficulties, and determined to forsake family, home and all, rather than face his creditors. This sad step was perhaps also indulged by the use of stimulants as it is thought that he was given to opium eating. His intention was to go to middle Tennesee and if possible some day send for his family. We have no further comments to add to this singular and sad case, except that although our information is reliable, no one need question us as to how we obtained it, for we are not at liberty to give it.1
