Incorporated as a borough in 1932.

First known as Mount Pleasant, the town of Mountville was laid out by Isaac Rohrer in 1814, its name being changed in 1837 to avoid confusion with another town by the same name. It was incorporated as a borough in 1906.

The town of Quarryville was established in 1791 and incorporated as a borough in 1892.
